Goma

Goma is a term that can refer to several entities, but most commonly, it is known as a city in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Located on the northern shore of Lake Kivu, Goma is the capital of the North Kivu province and has been a focal point of various political and humanitarian issues due to ongoing conflict in the region. The city is significant for its proximity to the Virunga National Park and its active volcanic landscape, including Mount Nyiragongo, which erupted in 2002 and has experienced other geological events. Goma serves as an important trade center and has seen a large influx of refugees and displaced persons due to regional instability. The name “Goma” can also relate to other contexts, including cultural or historical references specific to local languages or the environment.
