землетрус

Землетрус (pronounced “zemletrus”) is the Russian term for “earthquake.” It refers to the shaking of the Earth’s surface caused by the sudden release of energy in the Earth’s lithosphere, which creates seismic waves. Earthquakes can vary in intensity and can result in various impacts, from minor tremors that are barely felt to major seismic events that can cause significant damage, loss of life, and changes to the landscape. The study of earthquakes is known as seismology, and their occurrence is often measured using a scale known as the Richter scale or, more recently, the moment magnitude scale (Mw). Earthquakes can be triggered by natural processes such as tectonic plate movements, volcanic activity, or human-induced activities such as mining or reservoir-induced seismicity.
